The universe must have aligned perfectly the day my husband and I officially started trying to conceive. After years of inconsistently taking contraception medication, late May 2017 I took off the patch for the last time with the decision to have a baby! Having spent years trying to find the correct form of contraception, alternating between a pills, injections, patches, my body couldn’t agree with any of them and my menstrual cycle was very irregular. My hormones were either absolute chaos or the bleeding was very inconsistent and so I believed this would impose the biggest problems on making a baby; as well as previously having an ectopic pregnancy where I’ve had my left fallopian tube removed, halving my chances of getting pregnant (you can read about that here).
Not letting these issues deter from what the end goal is, we put our positive pants on and by using a period tracking app (Flo) on my phone, we waited for it to show when my body would be ovulating. Although I certainly had some factors that would cause problems for us to conceive, there were far more positives to consider too; 28 years old, I don’t drink or smoke, we live a calm happy life and eat healthy. With that in mind, one military standard scheduled night right before bed, my husband and I started officially trying on the night my app predicted I was ovulating.
Turning 180 degrees to resting my legs on the headboard I patiently waited for gravity and nature to work together. With all of the hope, belief and positive mindset I soon fell asleep, but awoke to what felt like a small scratch in my core stomach. This part may or may not seem crazy to you, but the scratch sensation was quick and felt as though it happened in my left ovaries. Am I that in tune with my body that I felt the inception? Or did I want it so much I imagined it? Either way, I did get pregnant that night as that’s how the dates align.
Some two weeks later and a quick trip to ASDA, I made my way to the medicine isle and searched for the pregnancy test, ironically positions right beside the contraception and placed it in to my basket. The front door couldn’t open fast enough before I ran to the bathroom and immediately took a test which showed two lines within minutes. A positive test result.
